Hey! Today on Jhalli Diva, I’m sharing about the newly launched Nykaa Skin Genius BB Cream review. For the uninitiated, Nykaa recently launched their own BB cream, after the Nykaa Cream. They’re quite on a roll! Nykaa BB cream is available in 5 shades as of now, I’m hoping that they will introduce more shades. I got the shade 04.

Ingredients: In the image below.
Packaging & Appearance: Outer carton box is the typical Nykaa packaging with pink hues, similar to all of the Skin Genius range. BB cream comes in a skin colored tube with a black flip cap. The BB cream is of normal consistency, more of blend-able & has a smooth texture.
Smell: It has a peculiar smell which is fine to me. It disappears soon.
Claims: It claims the following –
Boosts Luminosity & fights aging
Hides uneven skin tone
Hydrates & repairs
Swatch: In the image below.
My Experience: Let’s start by saying how the shades are so limiting! I couldn’t find my shade just because I’m slightly tanned. I don’t even want to wonder about deep skin beauties. Low-key I feel sone Indian brand needs to introduce a forty shade range foundation/face cream in India, catering to the ‘real & original’ Indian skin tone, just like Rihanna did with Fenty Beauty internationally. I’m pretty sure it will blow up, only possible if brands stop playing deaf ears to us consumers. Now before this becomes a rant, let’s move on, lol.
The shade 04 is dark for me as its way more orangey and has warm tones to it. So yay, I picked wrong shade, again. I can’t even use this for my eye makeup, touching base on this later.
I applied the BB cream after priming my face, at around 11 am & went to market around 2 pm (yeah, who goes at 2 pm, right? Your girl here!). It was bright, sunny, sweaty day. What happened next? My skin was all oily around the T-zone and cheek area. The BB cream came off, it almost disappeared like melted off or don’t know what happened and I was looking way more uneven skin toned, because hello wrong shade!
I wore it second day too, to finally conclude: This BB cream lasts me well and good for around 2 hours only. I tried it with primer & setting spray, it looked good for around 3 to maximum 4 hours, with spots here and there. I think baking might help. I feel it will last longer on other skin types.
It is kinda transfer-proof as it dries down. But not waterproof, baby! Don’t go near water!! I went to have water when I was in college, you know the traditional school style of drinking water.. yup that only..ohh did I look gorgeous afterwards, don’t even ask. Luckily, I carry wipes in my pouch, so I took it all off, whatever was remaining, cause it looked bad.
The BB cream doesn’t provide any coverage, so you gotta use your concealer. I know they are not supposed to be like full coverage foundation, but I was expecting more than sheer coverage.
I used Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define concealer alongside. This is why it failed when I used it as concealer (to cut the crease) & eyeshadow base (to prime).
It’s also not build-able. The more I try to blend it with my pink sponge, the more it disappears. If I take more than required amount, it makes me look little cakey. I thought my sponge absorbs most of the product, which was indeed true. It worked the best with fingers, gently patting it on to my face.
I also felt that it oxidizes slightly, I’m not sure if it’s the product or the weather. I need to test it more to be sure but it does oxidize.
It’s lightweight, didn’t feel greasy or tacky. That’s good part! I feel you’ll like it if you have normal skin or dry skin as it claims to hydrate. Talking about other claims, I can’t see it ‘fighting aging’ or ‘repairing’. It has goodness of SPF 30 but I still wore my sunscreen beneath.
It’s SLS & paraben free. And yeah Nykaa is cruelty free too. So yay!
1. Contains SPF 30
2. Cruelty Free
3. SLS & Paraben free
4. Lightweight and non-greasy
6. Travel friendly
1. Not suitable for combination/oily skin
2. Lasted me only a few hours
3. Limited shade range
Jhalli Diva Verdict: 3/5
Will I Repurchase?
Nope! I’ll give it a pass.
Do I Recommend?
Only if you can find your shade and have normal or dry skin. Even if it is not htdrating, a good moisturizer will cover up.
Overall Summary: Let’s hope Nykaa adds more shades to the range and also improves the formulation, cause who wants a disappearing product or maybe I’m just too oily. Nope, it’s the former, I love my skin. Am I sounding sarcastic? Well, then let’s cut off here!!
Have you tried it? Let me know your experience. I hope you had better than mine!
